Same Old Me

Writer's picture: Adella HalimAdella Halim

Hi everyone. Good evening. Adel’s here.

First of all, let me start by saying how sorry I was for going MIA on you guys for more than a month. Last month was just… pure hectic, frantic and mostly filled with news people being (overly) panic over an unexpected situation. Now that it has become a bit calmer, let’s catch up on life shall we?

First, I passed my Anaesthesia rotation (re:finally!). Before Corona came in the picture, I was supposed to take my final exams on May and June but then, due to the current situation now, my exams got postponed to August 2020. It’s actually a mixed feeling for me. On one side I am very grateful. More time is always good for preparation, that means I can have a more flexible studying schedule but on the other side, it sucks to know that I won’t be doing anything “productive” this year, well medically speaking. I will sort of “waste” 2020 being somebody who is stuck in the middle of not being a student on her clinical rotation and not officially a doctor yet. But again, nobody ever wishes for this to happen therefore no one to blame regarding this matter. I guess, I can take it as giving earth some time to rest and heal properly. The earth basically had put up with all of our “torture” and maybe this is an awakening call for us to treat it better and most importantly WITH RESPECT.

Second, I got internship at my campus. Woohoo. If you haven’t read my previous post, my internship is non-medical related. I got hired to handle some student exchanges, write articles and design a profiling magazine. During this “Work-From-Home” period, I thankfully am still able to perform and work. My latest writing was an educational post about Corona or commonly known as COVID-19. My magazine is going okay I guess, despite not having the opportunity to interview sources directly, I somehow have been able to manage the progress in a steady pace. Fingers cross everything will turn out good. One thing for sure I have no worries about cover design and layouts so far. Erika Indrajaya, my friend is an AMAZING designer. I can’t wait to share her work with you all.

Third, I CAN FINALLY SHARE PREVIEWS OF MY SECOND BOOK!!!! #dance. It is called Half Hearted Gypsy: Epiphany of Agony. On Wednesday, I just released sneak peeks and already got 10 orders. I am again very humbled and reminded once again by how amazing God’s grace and blessings are. Coming from a non-author background, I am very scared to actually publish sequel to the first book. I am afraid that the first book did well because my friends pitied me, not because my poems were good and “meaningful”. However, after a year, I had received kind comments, endless support and love from my readers. Not only from those who I know and am close with, but also from just random strangers who happened to buy and love the book. Again, I am very thankful. The details of the book launch will soon be announced so please wait on it. And if you miss my Insta Story, you can kindly click one of my highlights entitled E.O.A or go to the tab projects and download the whole full version of it. I am very excited to share the next chapter with you guys. You will love it. I guarantee this book is not repetitive and even slightly better than the first one (#wink) in terms of emotion portrayal. It’s more personal and deep.

Fourth, DBC Concert has officially risen from the graves and I can’t wait to see the event later on this year. Fun fact, it’s held on the same day as my concert Kashaf Farha. 26 September surely has its charm :’) I got the opportunity to see some of the audition tapes and let me tell you, all of them are great singers. Somehow, the men sounded so smooth and it got my heart melted to a pulp. One has a rustier voice so can’t wait to hear him sing more. As for the ladies, God damn. Talking about soulful singers. Such talents are to be expected if I am completely honest, since they’re apart of Cellube. #cellubeproud I am restlessly praying, wishing and hoping that Corona does not cancel this one loving legacy so they can know how it feels like to create a long-lasting family. I hope the love is given and felt every single step they take.

Well I guess, that’s all the important things I have for you readers out there to catch up on. I promise I’ll do my best to not go MIA again. Till then, stay at home and stay healthy! GBU.
